The Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH, in cooperation with INTERPOL and EUROPOL, is marking the United Nations International Day of Police Cooperation.
This year’s observance of this significant international date focuses on protecting vulnerable groups and the joint fight against all forms of crime.
Crime crosses national borders daily, and perpetrators of online fraud can target victims from anywhere in the world. Criminal networks traffic people, money, and illicit goods across various regions, while fugitives attempt to evade prosecution by moving from one country to another. An adequate response to these threats requires police cooperation that transcends national borders.
Today, the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH joins police agencies worldwide in marking the International Day of Police Cooperation, highlighting the crucial importance of international cooperation in protecting the community, supporting victims, and maintaining public safety.
This year’s observance focuses on protecting vulnerable groups and strengthening public trust and the legitimacy of police work, while reaffirming a shared commitment to the fight against crime.
International police cooperation yields tangible results for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It enables the identification and location of victims, the reunification of missing persons with their families, the tracking of fugitives, the dismantling of organized crime networks, the recovery of stolen assets, and the fight against high-tech crime.
Acting as the single point of contact for information exchange, the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH—through its Sector for International Operational Police Cooperation—exchanges over 100,000 pieces of information annually with police agencies worldwide. This cooperation is facilitated through INTERPOL, EUROPOL, and SELEC, as well as other channels of international operational police cooperation.
International police cooperation is an ongoing process, with results achieved through the daily work of police officers who exchange information, coordinate investigations, and support operational activities alongside trusted cross-border partners.
In addition to information exchange regarding ongoing cases, cooperation with international partners involves participation in numerous international operational actions led by INTERPOL, EUROPOL, and SELEC. Police agencies at all levels in Bosnia and Herzegovina take part in these operations, with the necessary coordination provided by the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies.
Furthermore, the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH, in cooperation with the INTERPOL General Secretariat and other partners, organizes thematic workshops aimed at raising awareness of current trends and challenges associated with various forms of cross-border organized crime. International police cooperation is a vital component of modern policing. It ensures that national borders do not become obstacles to justice and enables police agencies to act jointly against threats endangering communities worldwide.
On the occasion of this year's global observance of the International Day of Police Cooperation, the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH reaffirms its commitment to continued cooperation with partners both at home and abroad, aiming to build a safer environment and jointly combat crime.
The Directorate particularly emphasizes the pivotal role of coordination and cooperation in strengthening security and the rule of law, and remains dedicated to supporting joint activities aimed at combating all forms of crime.
Our mission begins at home. Cooperation connects us across borders.
