On June 16, 2026, the 26th session of the Council of the Southeast Europe Law Enforcement Center (SELEC), the highest body of this organization responsible for making strategic and operational decisions, was held in Bucharest. On that occasion, a number of significant decisions were adopted aimed at the further development and enhancement of SELEC's operational efficiency.

Participating in the session from the Directorate for the Coordination of Police Bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina was Kristina Jozić, Acting Deputy Director for the Sector for International Operational Cooperation, who also serves as a member of the SELEC Council on behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the session, the Council adopted the 2025 Annual Report, the budget package, as well as the annual Action and Work Plan. Additionally, several amendments to SELEC's internal rules and regulations were adopted, further enhancing the organization's operational and administrative framework.

The Council concluded that strengthening cooperation with international partners remains one of SELEC's strategic priorities. In this context, the request of the French Republic to obtain the status of an operational partner was positively evaluated, while an initiative to conclude a Memorandum of Understanding with GCCPOL was also supported.

In the second part of the session, the procedure for electing the Director of SELEC was conducted. After three rounds of voting, in accordance with the organization's rules, no candidate obtained the required number of votes to be elected. Accordingly, it was decided that the selection procedure will be repeated. The Council confirmed that the current Director General, Dr. Oguz Serkant Akin, will continue to serve in his position until the selection process for a new director is concluded.

Given that the National Contact Point for SELEC operates under the Directorate for the Coordination of Police Bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was emphasized that this segment of regional police cooperation has special significance and that it needs to be continuously strengthened and enhanced as an important complementary part of the overall international operational police cooperation.

The session once again confirmed the commitment of SELEC member states to the effective management of the organization, as well as to strengthening regional and international cooperation in the fight against all forms of cross-border crime.
