Sarajevo, 6 March 2013 – A three-day training on the “Information, Risk, and Scenario Management” which assembled police officials from BiH law enforcement agencies in charge of the VIP & Facilities Protection and Operational Support ended today in Sarajevo.
Ad Casteleijn, International Head of Operational Support, and Erik van Dam, lecturer at the Police Academy of the Netherlands shared their extensive experience on requirements for development of a good quality security matrix.
“The tactics used to control riots in the past have significantly evolved. The riot control units have been renamed into crowd management units and police is nowadays using lethal force as the last resort,” said Ad Casteleijn, International Head of Operational Support of the Dutch Police. “This new approach requires the best possible security matrix for an event. And this is exactly what we discussed with the BIH colleagues, for whom I must admit, are very experienced in this field.”
The analysis of information, assessment of potential risks and development of all possible scenarios translates into the measures which are to be taken. A number of case studies from the Netherlands and BIH were discussed.
“A well developed security matrix which includes all possible scenarios from the very low to the very high probability is of essential assistance for planning of securing an event. It enables proper human resource management and more importantly ensures proper guidance to all involved in all possible cases,” said Erik van Dam, lecturer at the Police Academy of the Netherlands.
The attendees were awarded certificates for the successful completion of the training programme.
The training was organized in scope of the ongoing Twinning Project “Support to the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH” aimed at enhancing Directorate's capacities and capabilities for VIP and Facilities Protection.
